- Assistant Professor in Digital Media/Technologies
Description
The Department of Communication at Tulane University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Digital Media/Technologies, beginning July 1, 2027. We seek a scholar whose research and teaching examine digital media and technologies from the perspective of media and communication studies. Areas of specialization may include data infrastructures, streaming media, digital distribution, mobile media, platform media, or digital production cultures. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work bridges or are conversant with both scholarship on digital media technologies and the practice or production of digital media.
We welcome a range of methodological approaches, including historical, ethnographic, archival, textual, industrial, practice-based, or transnational ones. The ideal candidate will contribute to the department’s undergraduate curriculum and help shape a growing area of strength at the intersection of critical media scholarship, communication, digital technologies, and media practice/production.
Teaching
The successful candidate will teach four undergraduate courses annually in the department's core curriculum and develop new elective offerings in their area of specialization. Teaching responsibilities may include courses that combine critical analysis with applied components as well as mentor students engaged in related research

Requirements
- Ph.D. in Communication, Media Studies, or a closely related field completed by May 2027. - A research program focused on digital media technologies from a media and communication studies perspective that includes a book manuscript project.
- Evidence of high-quality scholarly publication
- Evidence of teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience bridging scholarly research with the practice or production of digital media.
- Demonstrated ability to teach courses that integrate media and communication studies with a practice-based approach.
- a book project under review
Evidence of engagement with interdisciplinary or cross-departmental collaboration. - A record of, or clear potential for, securing external research funding.
